thiswearyhead asked: I volunteered at a wildlife rehabilitation center for several years, and when an animal passed away, we would donate it as a specimen to the local university to preserve. There's not some macabre fascination with cutting up dead animals--it's about saving the knowledge for future generations. Some animals that exist now might not exist in 50 or 100 years, so by preserving specimens and bones and pictures, we're preserving that knowledge as well.

Well put!  And good for you guys for having the foresight to donate the animal to a museum; we have many similar relationships with facilities and centers around Montana and has proved to be beneficial to all parties involved, but not least of all our visitors!
