Marmota monax

How many days out of the year do we get to really celebrate a certain species of animal?  Not that Groundhog’s day is about celebrating marmots, but judging from the rest of the science/wildlife tumblrs that I follow most are making a point to raise awareness of these interesting and somewhat misunderstood ground squirrels. I thought I’d do my part by contributing some skull photos.  Groundhogs are not widespread in Montana, but if you’re in the state and want to see one there are plenty in our Museum!

Quantum materiae materietur marmota monax si marmota monax materiam possit materiari?
